Take the next step in your diving career and become a NAUI Scuba Instructor.

The Stone Sports NAUI Instructor Training Course combines live instructor-led online academics with intensive in-person confined-water, open-water, rescue, teaching, and evaluation sessions.

The hybrid format allows candidates to complete much of the academic development from home while preserving the hands-on training and evaluation expected of a professional diving instructor.

Instead of requiring candidates to spend the entire course sitting in a classroom, our October ITC separates the program into two distinct phases.

Phase 1 — Live Online Academic Training

October 12th-21st

Candidates participate in eight live Zoom sessions from 6:00–9:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

These sessions cover:
 - NAUI orientation and standards
 - Teaching theory and instructional methods
 - Classroom presentation developmen
 - Confined-water teaching
 - Open-water teaching
 - Diving safety and emergency procedures
 - Rescue instruction
 - NAUI programs and continuing education
 - The business of professional diving instruction
 - Candidate teaching presentations

Zoom sessions are live and interactive. Recorded sessions do not replace required attendance.

Phase 2 — In-Person Instructor Qualification

October 22nd-26th

Candidates come together at Stone Sports and designated open-water training sites for five intensive days of instructor development and qualification.

During this portion of the ITC, candidates complete:
 - Equipment inspection
 - Confined-water teaching presentations
 - Confined-water briefing evaluation
 - Rescue workshops
 - Final classroom teaching presentation
 - Open-water teaching presentations
 - Open-water briefings and debriefings
 - Final rescue evaluationInstructor examinations
 - Candidate review board
 - Final course evaluation

The course includes three separate open-water training days.

The NAUI ITC is designed for experienced divers and dive leaders who are ready to move into professional scuba instruction.

Candidates should be comfortable demonstrating strong diving skills, leadership, judgment, communication, safety awareness, and professional conduct.

Basic Admission Requirements

Candidates must:
 - Be at least 18 years old
 - Hold a current NAUI Assistant Instructor or NAUI Divemaster certification, or equivalent
 - Have at least 60 logged open-water dives
 - Have at least 30 hours of bottom time at enrollment
 - Have at least six months of diving experience
 - Have 100 logged dives before Instructor certification
 - Obtain medical approval for diving from a licensed physician within the preceding 12 months
 - Own appropriate scuba equipment suitable for professional training
 - Dive experience must include varied environments, depths, and diving activities.


Additional NAUI leadership prerequisites and current training-department requirements will be verified with each candidate prior to enrollment.

Space in an Instructor Training Course is intentionally limited so candidates can receive meaningful coaching, evaluation, and feedback.
